Blissful ignorance :
“ A fortunate unawareness of something
unpleasant”
I’ve encountered a phrase from “The
Awkward Yeti” Heart and Brain’s book when brain said “you really are a case of
blissful ignorance” to heart. Heart is a person who’s so honest with himself, a
little bit reckless, who wear his “heart” bare. He literally acted according to
his heart. His books were so well-drawn and deep. He made it so enjoyable while
it also got us thinking. Many of his words rang true to my heart.
That particular sentence is the one I
want to discuss at this moment. That “blissful ignorance” attitude is needed
sometimes. Especially in this harsh world we live in, in order to stay sane.
The world has been so crazy, and losing yourselves in the middle of all of that
insanity is the easiest thing that you can do. We have to be a little ignorant to survive.
I didn’t mean ignorant in a bad way,
of course. But ignorant in the way of we should not think too much about what
others say about us. Just, let them be. If you pay attention to every single
thing that they said to you, it will drive you crazy. It maddens you. Whatever
you do, either good or bad, people will talk, anyway. It drives them crazy not to talk about others.
Someone said something to me that made
me questioned my value, they made me questioned myself. And I will never, ever
do that anymore. Because what they did was only talk, I’m the one who will be
cleaning up my own mess. I’m talking about a real mess right here, and it’s
taken me forever to re-build my self-confidence, I literally had to crawl my
way out of that hell.
Brene Brown on her “Braving the
Wilderness” talk said that she will negotiate anything else with you but her
worth, because when she fit herself in with how you wanted her to be, she’ll
belong to you by then. She’ll belong to herself no more.
So enough is enough, we have to learn
when to hold on along with when to let go. We have to be our own person. Be our
own “blissful ignorance”.
